A recent photographic trip took one of our photographers, Pete Whipp, over 9,000 miles away to the Central American country of Costa Rica. Famed for its wildlife diversity and as an ecotourism destination, Costa Rica is a perfect place to test photographic skills. Armed with a Nikon D2x body, lenses spanning 28–600mm, and an enormous hard drive for backing everything up onto, Pete Whipp wanted to get a good feel for the wildlife of the area. Pete visited 5 national parks with strikingly different habitats including the famous Monte Verde cloud forests. The photographs that were taken included several locally endangered species of primate; the squirrel monkey, which is isolated to just one area of Costa Rica and the howler monkey, and the Critically Endangered Quetzal bird. Please look at the South America gallery for a sample of the images that were taken on this trip.
